"Pocky" is a popular snack from Japan and is one of the absolute classics there. Pocky Choco Cookies and Creme consist of a crunchy biscuit stick, coated with creme and cookie-pieces.
The Pocky sticks are similar to the "Mikado" known in Switzerland, which, however, are available in far fewer variants than the Japanese original.
Pocky was launched in 1966, at a time when the only chocolate available in Japan was in the form of chunky bars imported from either the US or Europe. The original Pocky recipe was made by Ezaki Glico and consisted of thin, stick-shaped cookies covered from top to bottom in smooth chocolate and became a complete success. To avoid sticky fingers when snacking, today's version has a frosting-free tip.
By the way, the name comes from the crispy sound when nibbling the sticks.
